Health & wellness

Practical advice for island days.

Short, sensible notes on sun, heat, insects and travel — the questions we answer most often across the counter.

Seasonal note

Your first days in tropical sun.

Most of the questions we hear in our first conversations are about light: too much sun, too quickly. A little planning makes the rest of the week much more comfortable.

  • Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply through the day.
  • Drink water before you feel thirsty — heat catches up quietly.
  • Build up sun exposure gradually over the first few days.
  • Ask us about after-sun care if your skin feels tight or hot.

Sun protection

  • Reapply after swimming, sweating or every couple of hours.
  • “Water-resistant” means it lasts longer in water — not all day.
  • Hats and shade do as much work as any product.

Bites & repellents

  • Apply repellent to exposed skin in the late afternoon and evening.
  • Ask us which option suits children before you buy.
  • Keep bites clean, and ask us if swelling increases.

Travel & hydration

  • Carry water on long boat trips and motorbike rides.
  • Rehydration sachets are useful after heat or stomach upsets.
  • If symptoms persist, see a doctor — we will help you find one.

These notes are general information, not medical advice, and they do not replace a consultation with a doctor or pharmacist. Always read the label, and ask us if you are unsure.
